Ⅰ. Financial Well-being for All

Providing financial services to support all generations

Our vision for Financial Well-being for All is a world in which everyone enjoys financial security, is empowered to pursue their aspirations, and can confidently embraces opportunities in life.

However, in reality, concerns about the future in developed markets are causing people to hold back on spending, while in emerging markets, insufficient access to protection and financial services leaves individuals and businesses vulnerable to unexpected events that can significantly disrupt their lives and operations.

To address these issues, we will transform money from a “source of anxiety” into a “force for stepping into the future.” In addition to providing protection to safeguard daily lives, we will support intergenerational peace of mind through asset formation and succession, empowering people to design their own futures, enjoy fulfilling lives, and take on new challenges.

Additionally, we will contribute to enhancing corporate financial resilience, sustainable growth, and business stability by supporting the diversification of corporate financing options, thereby helping to provide greater peace of mind for households through stable employment and income.

We will deliver financial services across national and regional borders to realize a world filled with greater hope.

Daiichi Life Group is currently focusing on enhancing management from both financial and non-financial perspectives. To further refine our Core Materiality, a key element of this strategy, we engaged in in-depth discussions with internal and external stakeholders in FY2025 to clarify how initiatives addressing our Core Materiality can create social value while enhancing both financial performance and corporate value. Through this process, we identied priority themes on which we will focus our efforts.
For Financial Well-being for All, we have established the following two priority themes.

Priority ThemesUnderlying Social Issues and Why the Group Is Addressing
① Providing “Protect, Grow, and Utilize” Services that Broaden Life Choices
  • As customer needs become increasingly diverse, asset formation through personal effort and extending asset longevity have become social issues. In this context, further enhancing each individual’s financial literacy is an important theme, and in Japan, the shift from savings to investment is still gaining momentum.
  • Additionally, uncertainty about the future can lead to restrained consumption and a decline in prosperity.
  • We are transforming ourselves into an insurance-related services provider, delivering financial security through both protection and asset formation/succession solutions. By also offering options that support enriched lifestyles and consumer experiences, we are committed to advancing the financial well-being for all people.
② Closing the Protection Gap in Asia
  • In many Asian countries where social protection is inadequate, the penetration rate of life insurance remains low, and adequate protection is not reaching those who need it.
  • Another challenge is that unexpected out-of-pocket expenses, such as medical costs, can place a significant financial burden on households, contributing to the entrenchment of poverty.
  • As a life insurance group operating globally, we are committed to expanding access to appropriate insurance services for people across countries and regions through our local subsidiaries in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar, as well as through sustainability-themed investments.
Note: The implementing entities vary depending on the priority themes and the nature of the initiatives.

Delivering integrated value via protection and asset formation/succession

Maximizing LTV by Providing Integrated Values of Protection, Asset Formation, and Succession

As we enter the era of the 100-year life, the financial issues facing our customers have expanded beyond simply preparing for unforeseen events to include asset formation, utilization, and succession to the next generation. In light of this changing environment, we will help customers achieve financial well-being by providing integrated solutions that combine protection with asset formation and succession.
Specifically, we will provide integrated values of protection, asset formation, and succession tailored to each individual’s needs through diverse channels, including Daiichi Life’s sales representatives, agency networks, and Web Direct. This approach covers everything from supporting asset formation for younger generations, to providing protection and wealth accumulation solutions for working and child-rearing generations, to facilitating effective asset utilization and smooth wealth transfer for senior generations.

Contribution to the Revitalization of Financial and Capital Markets

As an institutional investor, Daiichi Life Group provides growth capital with the aim of creating a virtuous cycle that fosters the growth of Japanese companies and returns benefits to households. As part of this effort, we are working to revitalize the domestic corporate bond market and promote broader access to capital markets by expanding investment opportunities in lower-rated companies and facilitating bond issuances in collaboration with securities firms. In addition, as a member of the Life Insurance Association of Japan, we participate in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s Study Group on the Future of the Corporate Bond Market and contribute to the publication of the “Corporate Bond Issuance Guidebook” among other initiatives, sharing our perspectives based on practical insights as an institutional investor.

Advancing financial literacy education

Initiatives to Improve Financial Literacy

Daiichi Life advances consumer education and financial literacy education by utilizing “Life Cycle Game III: A Guide to Life Planning,” an educational material that allows participants to simulate life experiences while enjoying a board game. This educational material consists of a “Young and Middle-Aged Version” on one side (covering the period from starting a job in one’s 20s to retirement at age 65) and a “Senior Version” on the other side (covering the period from retirement at age 65 to age 100). It allows users to learn about life events such as marriage and home purchases, the risks of illness and injury, and examples of consumer fraud, such as wire transfer scams and fictitious billing. It is used in a wide range of settings, including schools, local governments, and corporate training programs for new employees throughout Japan, as well as parent-child classes for elementary school students and workshops for local residents.

Expansion of the insurance business in asian countries where the group operates

Initiatives at Daiichi Life Vietnam

Daiichi Life Vietnam entered the market in 2007 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2027. Over the years, in addition to promoting insurance penetration among the Vietnamese people through insurance sales, the company has also been actively engaged in CSR activities.
Daiichi Life Vietnam has been promoting insurance penetration by providing insurance products tailored to customer needs through two main channels: the company’s dedicated personal agent channel and the bancassurance channel established through partnerships with local banks. Through the personal agent channel, the company has focused on selling savings-based universal life insurance, which allows customers to balance protection and savings while flexibly adjusting premiums, as well as unit-linked insurance, where the payout amount fluctuates based on investment performance. Furthermore, as part of its pioneering initiatives, Daiichi Life Vietnam began selling Vietnam’s first personal annuity insurance in October 2013, thereby expanding its product lineup to address not only protection needs but also long-term asset formation needs. In terms of CSR activities, the company has provided ongoing support centered on health, the environment, education, and local community support, including supporting free cataract surgeries, developing infrastructure in rural areas, donating water purification systems to schools, and providing scholarships.

Initiatives at Daiichi Life Cambodia

Building on the operational expertise gained through Daiichi Life Vietnam, we turned our attention to Cambodia, where the young segment makes up the majority of the population, and established Daiichi Life Cambodia in 2018. Since it was anticipated that securing a sufficient number of local experts in insurance business operations would be difficult in Cambodia, members of Daiichi Life Vietnam and the Regional Headquarters in Singapore shared their know-how across various functions, including distribution, product development, insurance underwriting, policy administration, and claims payment, to train locally hired talent.

Initiatives at Daiichi Life Myanmar

In 2018, the Myanmar government decided to open its market to foreign life insurance companies to develop the insurance market, and in 2019, the Group entered the market with the establishment of Daiichi Life Myanmar. As with the establishment of Daiichi Life Cambodia, the Group was able to rapidly build a solid business foundation by leveraging the know-how of Daiichi Life Vietnam. Daiichi Life Myanmar primarily offers endowment insurance through personal agent and bancassurance channels. The company successfully secured an exclusive sales partnership with the country’s largest local bank and has significantly increased its market presence in recent years.

Financial Inclusion

Our Approach to Financial Inclusion

Financial inclusion means that all people have access to affordable financial services needed to seize economic activity opportunities and to reduce economic uncertainty.
About half of the world’s population are unable to receive basic medical services. According to a survey, low-income people are more likely to fall into poverty due to self-pay healthcare.
As the Group centered on the insurance business, we also recognize financial inclusion as an important social issue.

The Group is actively providing insurance to those who have difficulty in accessing financial services, with the aim of achieving stability in their lives through the dissemination of insurance and other means. In addition to providing products and services, we are also working to achieve financial inclusion through financial literacy education. Specifically, we are working to promote insurance by selling microinsurance products at Group companies in Vietnam, India, Indonesia, and other countries, which are easy for low-income people to purchase. These products are sold through a variety of channels, such as post offices and banks, according to the needs and preferences of the target audience, and are designed to reach unserved groups and expand the scope of financial services based on market research and customer feedback. Appropriate grievance procedures are in place in each country that are accessible to all customers, including those covered by these products. In addition, training is provided to staff to prevent aggressive sales and unrespectful treatment of the targeted groups to all customers, including those covered by financial inclusion products. When selling microinsurance products, especially as exemplified by India’s PMJJBY (Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana), we engage in dialogue and cooperation with the governments of the selling countries to provide insurance products which can reach wide range of income group. Achieving livelihood stability through insurance penetration, including financial inclusion initiatives, is one of the four values of experience that we offer, and this has been incorporated into our Medium Term Management Plan and approved by the Board of Directors.
